LPAs and Deputyship

As a full professional member of Solicitors for the Elderly I have a particular expertise in advising on and obtaining Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPA) for both Property and Financial Affairs and for Health and Welfare matters.

LPAs replaced Enduring Powers of Attorney in 2007 and are used to appoint trusted representatives to act on your behalf should you ever be in a position where you were unable to make an informed decision for yourself. I am able to advise whether there should be any particular instructions or advice left to the attorneys. I am also able to act as a Certificate Provider assessing the mental capacity of the client to ensure that they are capable of making a LPA.

I also have considerable experience in applying for relatives to be appointed as Deputies for people who have already lost the capacity to make financial decisions for themselves. This involves applying to the Court of Protection and I am able to advise on the type of order to be applied for and the extent of the Deputyship powers that the court are likely to allow.
